News post Karen Burton

Nottingham Wildcats today confirmed the appointment of Karen Burton to the role of WBBL Head Coach.  For Burton, who has been doing the job on an interim basis for the last few weeks, it is a return to her childhood club, which she first joined as a 12 year old.  Coach Burton will officially take up the post on the 1st September 2023, but in the meantime is heavily involved in the recruitment of players to next season’s roster.

Coach Burton will combine the post with leading the Wildcats Community Schools Programme and overseeing the University of Nottingham Women’s Basketball Programme, including coaching their 1st team in BUCS Premier.

Chairperson of the Wildcats Trust commenting on Coach Burton’s appointment said, “I coached Karen when she was a player here and have followed her coaching career with interest ever since. She first started coaching with the Wildcats back in our NBL Division 1 days and has progressed all the way up to the GB National teams.  Coach Burton will be a great asset to the WBBL squad and our Community programme. She knows the Wildcats way and we are excited for that to be translated to the WBBL team”.

In a statement Coach Burton stated “I am excited for the next chapter of my coaching pathway.  Having been involved with Wildcats since a junior, I feel I know the culture that they have and how dedicated they are to junior development. This year, I will have a new look team. Some more British talent alongside some new players to the WBBL. It is important for us to have a good year by being competitive in every game and by just being better every time we step on the floor”.
