The Women’s British Basketball League (WBBL) was founded in 2014 with the aim of creating a high-quality professional women’s league in the UK.

There are 12 franchises in major towns and cities across the nation and franchise development is at the fore of the league’s strategic intentions, in order to bring top-level basketball to as many people as possible.

WBBL clubs are increasingly built on the foundations of strong community programmes. Whilst providing positive role models for young people, clubs are also actively involved in developing the next generation of British basketball players and promoting the sport, and associated healthy lifestyles, to young people in their localities.

The WBBL is a key partner in the development of basketball in Britain whilst also providing somewhere for local people to pick up a basketball in the constituencies of WBBL clubs. The WBBL consider the national governing body, the British Basketball Federation, and all the Home Nation Governing Bodies, to be prominent partners in the development of basketball in Britain.

We are currently seeking to identify and appoint an Independent Non-Executive Director to join our Board. The Board is collectively responsible for the Club’s leadership; the implementation of our strategic vision, the strengthening of our profile and relevance; and, ensuring that our teams perform at the highest levels both on and off the court.

The Board facilitates the achievement of our strategy and oversees effective resource allocation while managing associated risks. It is accountable for fostering our sustainable success, as well as enhancing our profile and reputation.

Successful candidates will have a track record of inclusive leadership, as well as a strong appreciation for the role of contemporary governance and the responsibilities of Non-Executive Directors. They will be excellent communicators, with the ability to work creatively and collaboratively in a complex stakeholder environment. They bring a strong empathy for – and embed themselves within – the broader culture of the WBBL and the basketball communities. Board experience is welcomed.

We are particularly seeking individuals who can evidence experience in one (or more) of the following areas:

  • Audit, Finance and Risk
  • Commercial
  • HR
  • Legal
  • Technology/Digital

Recognising the benefits of continuing diversity within our organisation, including at Board level, we are committed to ensuring an inclusive culture and environment for all.

We would be delighted to hear from interested individuals who share our vision and have the ambition and expertise to help us to deliver a bright future as we look to enhance a strong Board connected to the communities we serve.
