Wildcats keep pressure on top on the table

Durham Palatinates and Sevenoaks Suns will meet in this year’s WBBL Cup Final after both clubs picked up wins. Leicester Riders, Nottingham Wildcats and Oaklands Wolves also enjoyed success with victories in the Championship.

Nicolette Fong Lyew Quee poured in a game-high 24 points to help Durham advance to the WBBL Cup Final. The visitors produced a stunning fourth quarter to run out 79-72 winners over FLT Peterman Sheffield Hatters.

Sevenoaks then punched their ticket to the WBBL Cup Final with a thrilling 63-58 victory over Newcastle Eagles. Cat Carr’s 18 points proved pivotal in what turned out to be a close encounter.

Elsewhere, Leicester saw off a determined Caledonia Pride 68-56 on the road, behind 18 points from Kate Oliver. The win sees the visitors maintain their position at the top of the table and moves them two points clear of second place.

Nottingham also kept the pressure on their title rivals with a 65-47 victory against BA London Lions. Jasmine Joyner led the home team with 16 points and 12 rebounds. There was cause for further celebration, for the shot stopper, as the Wildcats forward reached 100 WBBL Championship blocks in the victory.

Anneke Schlueter’s 15 points inspired Oaklands to a third Championship victory. The home side emerged with the points thanks to a 78-70 outing against Essex Rebels.
